About K 04 January 2010

kaye globe run for home 09A ballerina-turned-athlete, Kaye Lopez is the Team Captain/Manager of Team David’s Salon (TDS), the Philippines’ first all-women multi-sport team.  A former certified Spinning instructor, she used to teach Spinning classes at the Loyola Spinning Studio and at the Planet Infinity 24-Hour Gym.  With more than 10 years’ worth of athletic experience as a former member of several national teams including triathlon, duathlon, and cycling, she used to contribute health, fitness, and nutrition articles for HealthToday and Action&Fitness magazines.

Early in her high school years at the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) and college years as a BS Psychology major at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, she had already began garnering awards and notable achievements such as the Athlete of the Year Award from PSHS, bagging a slot in the athletic delegation (Cycling) for the 2003 Vietnam Southeast Asian Games, as well as graduating cum laude in her college course the following year.  As she opted to pursue her athletic career right after college, she soon earned the title of “defending champion” in the 2006 National Open Duathlon Championships.  She was also the overall champion in the Elite Women’s category in the 2007 XRC series.   Now a self-professed, semi-retired athlete and part-time multi-sport coach to her Team David’s Salon teammates, Kaye just finished a diploma course in Kitchen Management at the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management (ISCAHM) and is hoping to merge her knowledge in health, fitness, nutrition, and the culinary arts by owning a healthy café someday.

After years of self-discovery along the road less traveled, she has finally settled into working with Coach Rio De La Cruz as his Project Manager for his sports and events management companies, RunRio Inc. and Finishline.ph.  Although she has decided to set aside competitive sports for now, she still hopes to find a balance between pursuing her future career and staying fit and healthy through regular exercise.  And despite the many roads she’s taken to get to where she is today, one life goal remains unchanged: inspiring and teaching others to be active achievers in their personal, professional, and spiritual lives.

You’re from Pisay pala? I’m sure you went through the usual 1k time trials around the campus as well as the 2++km run around the triangle. My batchmate owns the 1k record in Pisay @ 2:48. I wonder if that has been broken already. Hehe.

  4. consiglieri says:

    Hi K, I’m from Batch 91. :-)

  5. Consiglieri says:

Oh? You’re from Batch 82? Same batch as our basketball coach. :-D

  6. Consiglieri says:

Haha. Of course I figured you’re from batch 2000. Although I don’t have the slightest idea of what spinning is all about, it sounds so hip and new that it’s highly improbable that someone from batch ‘82 would be teaching it (no offense to those from that generation). Hehe. Good luck to you and Coach Rio on all your endeavors. Let’s keep on running!

I just can’t help but to admire you, Miss K. Can I kiss you when we chance upon each other in one of the races?
