Meet Coach Rio Dela Cruz

Goals
As a race organizer, his major goal is to produce world-class running events here in the Philippines and for his events organizing company to be the standard in premiere organized run races in the country. As a race director, he hopes to affiliate himself with international organizing bodies and work with them to create a running event worthy of the presence of world-renowned foreign athletic delegates and involvement of multi-national companies. He dreams big and hopes to be hired to organize a race abroad some day.
As an athlete, he has just achieved his most recent goal of qualifying for the 2010 Boston Marathon at the Eye-Q Two Cities Marathon in Fresno Clovis, California, with a time of 3 hours and 5 minutes. He clocked in 5 minutes better than the cut off time to qualify in his age group despite suffering from excruciatingly painful cramps on the last 10 miles of his run. Admittedly he came into the race ill-prepared, thanks to his insufficient training due to a hectic workload, not to mention his nagging jetlag and some difficulty acclimatizing to the biting cold. He still dreams of qualifying for the Olympics someday, and how ironic if, of all the Olympics he could join, he would find himself on the starting line of a marathon in the city where he was named after, the Rio Olympics 2016 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
